Planning your day is crucial when diving at Netrani Island since the boat ride is a full-day sea excursion. Here is the complete timeline of a standard dive day.
Daily Schedule Overview
The diving trips run daily from October to May, subject to weather conditions.
- 7:30 AM — Reporting & Registration: Arrive at the reporting office near Murudeshwar Temple. Complete medical forms, verify booking details, and receive your briefing.
- 8:30 AM — Boat Boarding: Board the dive boats from Murudeshwar beach. Keep your bags in the dry area of the boat.
- 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM — Travel to Netrani: The boat crossing to Netrani Island takes about 1 hour. Enjoy the views of the coastline and Murudeshwar's Shiva Statue.
- 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM — Dive Rotation & Snorkeling: The boat anchors at Netrani reef. Instructors guide guests one-by-one. When you are not diving, you can snorkel or rest.
- 1:45 PM — Return Journey: The boat departs Netrani for Murudeshwar shore.
- 2:45 PM - 3:00 PM — Back on Shore: Arrive at Murudeshwar beach and receive your underwater photos and videos.
Important Booking Tips
- Arrive Early: The sea is calmest in the morning. Being on time ensures a smoother boat ride.
- Monsoon Closure: Diving is completely closed from June to September due to heavy rain and rough seas.
- Advance Slots: Weekend slots sell out fast. We recommend booking at least 3-5 days in advance.
Why Morning Departures Matter
The Arabian Sea around Murudeshwar follows predictable wind and wave cycles. Early morning hours offer:
- Flattest Sea Surface: Thermal winds are minimal before 11:00 AM, resulting in a gentle, pleasant boat crossing.
- Maximum Sunlight Penetration: The morning sun angles illuminate the coral gardens at Netrani, giving you vibrant underwater photos with natural color fidelity.
- Calmest Marine Wildlife: Reef fish and sea turtles are most actively grazing in the morning hours before midday heat.
Synchronizing Travel with Dive Timings
- Overnight Train from Bangalore: The Panchaganga Express (16595) arrives at Murudeshwar railway station around 7:10 AM, allowing you to head directly to the dive center for registration.
- Buses from Bangalore / Mangalore / Goa: Most sleeper buses drop passengers at Murudeshwar National Highway bypass between 6:30 AM and 7:30 AM. Auto-rickshaws take only 5 minutes to reach the temple beach.
- Evening Plans: Because you return to shore by 3:00 PM, you will have plenty of time to freshen up, visit the Murudeshwar Temple, take the lift to the 18th floor of the Raja Gopura, and witness the sunset over the Arabian Sea.
Post-Dive Rest and Flying Rules
Please note the international diving safety rule regarding high-altitude travel and commercial flights:
- Introductory Single Dive: Allow a minimum surface interval of 12 to 18 hours before flying in an airplane or traveling to high-altitude hill stations (above 1,000 ft).
- Multiple Dives: If you complete two or more consecutive dives, wait 24 hours before boarding a flight.
