Netrani Island, commonly known as Pigeon Island, is a small heart-shaped uninhabited island located in the Arabian Sea, approximately 19 km off the coast of Murudeshwar.

Top Dive Sites Around Netrani Island
The island's unique jagged volcanic rock formations create varied underwater topographies suited for both beginners and certified divers:
- 1. Grand Central Station: A massive underwater amphitheater teeming with large schools of yellowtail barracudas, jacks, batfish, and snappers. Visibility here often exceeds 20 metres.
- 2. The Nursery: A shallow, sheltered coral basin (5 to 10 metres depth) protected from strong swells. This is the primary spot for introductory try dives and non-swimmers, filled with clownfish, sea anemones, and juvenile parrotfish.
- 3. The Abyss / The Wall: A dramatic vertical drop-off plunging down to 30+ metres. Home to giant honeycomb moray eels, large groupers, and pelagic predators cruising in the open blue.
- 4. Coral Garden: Vast fields of brain coral, table coral, and staghorn coral interspersed with colorful sea cucumbers, starfish, and nudibranchs.
Island Ecology & Conservation Rules
Netrani Island is a protected maritime ecosystem under the jurisdiction of the Karnataka Forest Department and the Indian Coast Guard. Visitors must adhere to strict eco-tourism protocols:
- No Landing on the Island: The island itself has sharp volcanic cliffs and dense nesting bird colonies (including white-bellied sea eagles). All diving activities take place from anchored boats in surrounding waters.
- Strict "No Touch" Rule: Divers must never touch, step on, or break live corals. Corals are living animals that take decades to grow a few centimeters.
- Zero Plastic Discharge: All waste generated on the boat is securely stored and brought back to the mainland for eco-friendly disposal.
